Cavities don't always require immediate fillings. This is explained by dentist Isabel Solsona , who points out that, in the very early stages, enamel can still recover.
"You can remineralize early cavities and slow their progression," says the specialist, who offers simple advice for those who find themselves in this situation.
@dra.solsona ✨Will this trick give you extra protection against cavities?✨ Especially in those cases where you have very small cavities between teeth that don't need filling yet. According to Solsona , one of the keys is to strengthen hygiene between the teeth , precisely in those areas where small demineralization stains often appear. To do this, he suggests a homemade method: soak dental floss in fluoride toothpaste before gently wiping it between the teeth. This way, the fluoride is deposited directly on the affected enamel.
"What I recommend is cutting a large piece of floss , putting a small amount of toothpaste on your finger and applying it to the floss. Then, gently move it between your teeth," says the dentist. The goal is for the mineral to reach the surface where cavities are beginning to develop.

Solsona also warns of a gesture that can reduce the effectiveness of the procedure: it's not a good idea to rinse with water immediately afterward . Allowing the fluoride to remain in contact with the enamel for a few minutes increases the likelihood that it will remineralize the weakened area.

The expert reminds us that this trick doesn't replace regular checkups or the use of other hygiene tools, such as brushing or fluoride mouthwash. However, it can be an additional ally for those with very small cavities who are looking to slow their progression in a simple way at home.
Thus, Isabel Solsona insists that prevention is the best weapon against cavities : rigorous cleaning habits, regular visits to the dentist, and the strategic use of fluoride allow dental health to be maintained without the need for more invasive treatments.
